I am a supporter of liberty in all its forms including free markets, free trade, and peace.
I am also an actuary who specialised in investment consultancy but now spend much of my time in writing articles devoted to liberty and giving government discredit where discredit is due – a very big occupation.
Born in Hartlepool in 1940, Terry Arthur was educated at Manchester and Cambridge Universities and became a consulting actuary after qualification in 1966.
In 1976 he founded his own firm which achieved success and reputation as an adviser to large pension funds, and which eventually merged with Bacon & Woodrow in 1989.
In 1991 Terry left traditional consultancy to concentrate entirely on (i) non-executive positions in organisations concerned with his speciality of institutional investment and (ii) professional writing and speaking. He also wrote regularly on pensions, investment and economic issues for several journals. Recently he has concentrated more on writing, including the book Crap: A Guide to Politics, and regular articles for professional journals and think tanks. He is a regular speaker at educational establishments.
Terry is a keen sportsman, winning a rugby blue at Cambridge University in 1962 and playing for England in 1966.
